A Clearer Map for
Everyday Financial Planning
We exist to make financial planning concepts accessible and understandable for everyday Malaysians — through structured education, not advice.
Back to HomeWhere Northgild Comes From
Northgild was founded in Johor Bahru by a small group of educators and practitioners who noticed a consistent gap: many Malaysians had access to products and services relating to money, but far fewer had a solid conceptual foundation to understand what those products were actually doing. The mechanics of budgeting, the logic behind saving structures, the relationship between short-term spending and longer goals — these were things people often had to piece together on their own.
The founders wanted to address that gap directly, without selling anything attached to it. Northgild was set up specifically as an education organisation — one that would focus entirely on concepts, frameworks, and literacy, leaving participants free to make their own choices with a better-informed perspective.
Since opening our doors at Jalan Abdullah Tahir, we have run workshops and programmes for working adults, young professionals, and community groups across Johor. Our approach has stayed consistent: plain language, small groups, and materials you can actually use after the session ends.
Our Mission & Values
-
Orientation Over Prescription
We help people understand where they stand and how the landscape works. We do not tell anyone what to do with their money.
-
Structure That Builds Confidence
Our programmes are sequenced deliberately — each concept connects to the next, so participants leave with a framework rather than isolated facts.
-
Respectful, Accessible Communication
We write and speak plainly. Technical terms are explained when used. No one should feel embarrassed asking a basic question in our sessions.
-
Locally Grounded
Our examples, scenarios, and context are drawn from Malaysian everyday life — we do not borrow curriculum from elsewhere and repackage it.
Our Team
Siti Liyana developed Northgild's core curriculum framework, drawing on over a decade of experience facilitating adult learning programmes across Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
Ahmad brings a background in instructional design and public communication, and is responsible for translating complex planning concepts into materials that are clear and practically useful.
Nurul manages the Planning Toolkit community and participant communications, ensuring that members always have a responsive point of contact for general questions about accessing materials.
Our Quality Standards
Every Northgild programme is developed and delivered according to a set of consistent standards that protect participant experience and maintain educational integrity.
Content Accuracy Review
All programme materials go through an internal accuracy review before use. Conceptual content is checked for clarity, factual correctness, and neutrality before each session cycle.
Participant Data Privacy
Enrolment and contact details are handled with care in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We do not share participant information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Small Group Sizing
Group sizes are deliberately capped so that every participant can ask questions and engage meaningfully. We do not run oversized sessions that compromise discussion quality.
Certificate of Attendance
Participants who complete the Planning Literacy Programme receive a certificate of attendance, issued by Northgild and recording the programme dates and content scope.
No Advice, No Conflict
Northgild does not provide financial advice and has no commercial relationship with financial product providers. Our education is kept strictly separate from any regulated activities.
Regular Content Updates
Materials are reviewed and refreshed periodically to reflect changes in the Malaysian financial landscape, ensuring the concepts we teach remain relevant and contextually accurate.
Financial Planning Literacy in Malaysia: Why It Matters
Understanding everyday money concepts — how cash flow works across a month, what the relationship is between short-term savings and longer goals, how to think about expenses in categories that make sense — is the kind of knowledge that tends to have a lasting effect on how people approach their financial lives. It is not complicated knowledge, but it is often scattered, available in fragments across many different sources, and rarely presented as a connected whole.
In Malaysia, there are many avenues for receiving financial products and services, but fewer structured opportunities to simply understand the concepts behind them. Northgild occupies that specific space: a place to learn the framework, not receive a recommendation.
Our programmes are built around the idea that clarity comes from structure. When you understand how the pieces of everyday planning connect — budgeting to saving, saving to goal-setting, goal-setting to decision-making — you are better positioned to evaluate any information or option you encounter. That is what Northgild aims to provide: a clear, well-structured map of concepts that helps people navigate their own planning questions with more confidence.
